36 Days of Type 2021
Lettering
In 2021 I decided to join the 36 Days of Type challenge on Instagram, an open call exploring the creative boundaries of letterforms, where participants are challenged to design a letter or number each day for 36 consecutive days.
I used the exercise as an opportunity to explore the experimental lettering of Hungarian artist Imre Reiner (1900–1987). After conducting extensive research on his work, I set out to create a full alphabet and numerals in his style using a ruling pen and sumi ink. The backgrounds were painted separately with gouache, then combined on the computer.
